Charles Fletcher 'Fletch' Shanley

11 August 1954 to 28 June 2022

If you ever took a drive through the Darling Downs and stumbled upon a little Irish pub in a town called Clifton, you were sure to have met Fletch.  Fletch was a little bit of a larrikin and a mate to many. Fletch and his wife Kathleen (deceased) were the publicans of O'Shanley's Irish Bar and Restaurant and loved to be part of the local and surrounding communities. They enjoyed hosting events and bringing everyone together. 2009, the day after their annual Australia Day celebrations, Fletch woke feeling unwell and it became clear that he was having a heart attack and would require urgent medical transportation to Brisbane.  It was through the help of a CareFlight helicopter, that Fletch was able to receive the emergency treatment he required to survive.

Every Australia Day Celebration after that, Fletch and Kathleen fundraised for CareFlight to help support what is a very valuable medical resource in regional areas.

Unfortunately, late last month due to another heart attack, Fletch's life was cut short. He will be sadly missed by his children, grandchildren, sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, his mates and of course his community. Although Fletch is now no longer with us, we are grateful for the extra time we had with him due to the interventions of CareFlight. Thank you to all the medical and other personnel who supported Fletch during that time. Please help honour Fletch through a memorial donation in his name. We love you and miss you Fletch, rest in peace.
